Download Minecraft 1.21.80 to try one of the most feature-packed Bedrock Edition updates of 2025. This version introduces flat world presets for builders, a new Happy Ghast flying mount behind experiments, Vibrant Visuals graphics mode, the Locator Bar HUD, and a long list of parity fixes and quality-of-life improvements across Minecraft PE.
Minecraft 1.21.80.03 Release Overview
Minecraft 1.21.80 refines the Bedrock Edition experience on mobile, console, and PC while adding powerful experimental systems for creators and technical players. From new world presets and audio fixes to biome music tweaks, Realms region selection, and updated mob behavior, this update continues to narrow the gap with Java Edition and make Minecraft PE more stable and expressive.
Flat World Presets in Bedrock Edition
For players who love clean building canvases, flat world presets are now available directly in Bedrock. In the Advanced tab of the Create New World screen, you can enable the Flat World option and choose from several presets tailored for different playstyles and technical builds.
Available Flat World Presets
The following presets can be selected when setting up a new flat world:
- Classic Flat
- Tunnelers’ Dream
- Water World
- Overworld
- Snowy Kingdom
- Bottomless Pit
- Desert
- Redstone Ready
These options make it easier to create redstone laboratories, testing arenas, or thematic survival worlds without manually reshaping terrain. Builders who prefer structured, low-noise environments will find these presets especially useful when planning large-scale projects.
Audio, Blocks, and Gameplay Fixes
Minecraft 1.21.80 delivers multiple audio fixes across Windows and Bedrock platforms. Sound no longer cuts out at specific loading percentages, music and effects correctly stop after saving and exiting, Wolf spawning sounds use proper variants, and credits music plays reliably when entered from the settings menu. Ambient block sounds for sand, dead bushes, terracotta, and other materials have also been restored.
Block behavior receives a significant polish pass. Sapling age bits no longer regress incorrectly, preventing false Observer triggers around tree farms. Ambient occlusion now behaves correctly for non 1x1x1 blocks such as stairs, fences, buttons, plates, hoppers, anvils, and more. Numerous plants, including flowers, bamboo, mangrove propagules, coral fans, tall grass, and dripstone now share the same random offset ranges as Java Edition for visual parity.
Core Gameplay and Movement Improvements
Several long-standing movement quirks are addressed. Players no longer pass through certain blocks at powers-of-two coordinates, gliding and swimming respawns now restore correct collision, and sprinting in water can no longer outpace proper swimming. Deepslate Redstone Ore once again lights up when interacted with and no longer remains stuck in a permanently lit state.
Elytra handling is refined: fireworks used while gliding now function purely as boosts, and edge cases involving fireworks and blocks like sugar cane are fixed to prevent rubberbanding. Trail ruins generate consistently across Java and Bedrock when using the same seed, and virtual or mixed reality gameplay access has been removed from this build.
Item, Mob, and Vanilla Parity Changes
On the item side, Minecraft 1.21.80 ensures that usable items work correctly while targeting Mob Spawners, Mangrove Roots can be used as furnace fuel, and hopper interactions with chests no longer cause item loss under certain conditions. Totem of Undying now grants the same 45 seconds of regeneration as in Java, shears lose durability when used on full beehives and bee nests, and shields take durability damage from explosions.
Mobs receive a wide range of behavior tweaks. Named Slimes and Magma Cubes retain their names when splitting, Creakings stay in the world after reload, and Parrots can imitate additional mobs such as Phantoms, Guardians, Ravagers, Pillagers, Blazes, and Zoglins. Wither Skeletons and Zombified Piglins can walk in lava, camel spawning respects space constraints, farmer villagers avoid getting stuck while harvesting, and farm animal spawn eggs in Mangrove Swamps now match Java variants.
Structures and Loot Adjustments
Woodland Mansions have slightly updated loot tables: an Iron Axe with Efficiency I now always appears in a specific chest. Multiple recipes now mirror Java, such as Cut Sandstone and Cut Red Sandstone slabs being craftable through the Stonecutter. Rabbit drops scale more logically with Looting, improving late-game hunting rewards.
Realms, UI, and Quality-of-Life Updates
Realms owners gain more control through a new Advanced tab in Realm settings, where they can choose a preferred hosting region. While this selection is treated as a preference and may be adjusted based on capacity, the game now indicates which server region your Realm uses when joining.
Stability and performance are improved with fixes for crashes related to Realms creation, chunk generation, foliage texture loading, and marketplace add-ons. These changes help keep large worlds and add-on-heavy setups more reliable for long-term play.
User Interface Enhancements
The UI sees extensive refinements in Minecraft 1.21.80. The main menu background and logo animations now respect the Screen Animations setting, and various screens handle low disk space more gracefully with new modals, storage management buttons, and cache-clearing options. Worlds no longer disappear from the Storage menu, bundle tooltips show accurate item counts, and bed screen messaging during thunderstorms is corrected.
Touch Controls and Accessibility
Touch controls gain clearer icons for dismount and jump when mounted, better customization options for spectators, and fixes for edge cases such as adjusting controls during the Hardcore death animation. Bundles interact correctly with Pocket UI inventory tabs, gamepad bundle slot selection is more precise in split screen, and mouse-based stack splitting across slots behaves predictably for keyboard and mouse users.
Experimental Features in Minecraft 1.21.80
Dried Ghast, Ghastling, and the Happy Ghast Mount
Enabling the “Drop 2 2025” experimental toggle unlocks one of the most striking additions: the Dried Ghast block, Ghastling, and Happy Ghast. Dried Ghast blocks appear in Nether Fossil structures or can be crafted with a bone block and ghast tears. When waterlogged, they progress through multiple states over approximately twenty minutes, emitting sounds and particles before eventually spawning a Ghastling.
The Ghastling is a young variant of the new Happy Ghast mob. It follows nearby players or passive mobs, idles within a radius around its home position, and can be tempted or accelerated to adulthood using snowballs. Once grown, it becomes a Happy Ghast: a flying mount capable of carrying up to four players, controlled by the first rider and influenced by a new Harness item that can be crafted, dyed, and removed with shears.
Harness and Happy Ghast Behavior
The Happy Ghast has no panic behavior when taking damage, regenerates health slowly (faster in rain, snow, or at cloud height), and idles within a set radius of its home location. When players ride on top of it, the mob aligns to cardinal directions and temporarily pauses movement; goggles drop over its eyes to indicate that it is under player control. If players dismount midair, the Happy Ghast descends to the ground before resuming free roaming.
This experimental system introduces a unique mount experience to Bedrock, blending atmospheric design, multiplayer cooperation, and long-term progression as Ghastlings mature into full-sized Happy Ghasts that can carry an entire group across the sky.
Vibrant Visuals Graphics Mode
Vibrant Visuals is a new experimental rendering mode designed to enhance lighting, effects, and overall ambience in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Supported on selected Xbox, PlayStation, Android, iOS, and DX12-capable PCs, this mode can be enabled via the Experimental tab and then chosen in the in-game Graphics Mode dropdown.
Players can choose presets that favor visuals or performance, or fine-tune individual Vibrant Visuals options. While splitscreen is not currently supported and certain visual issues remain on specific GPUs, the mode already improves PBR usage on candles, chiseled bookshelves, dried kelp, and stained glass rendering. Marketplace add-ons, skins, and persona items work with Vibrant Visuals, but worlds and texture packs are not yet compatible.
Locator Bar HUD Experiment
The Locator Bar is a new HUD element that replaces the experience bar when its experiment is enabled and multiple players are present in a world. It shows colored indicators for player directions within a wide frontal arc, with arrows indicating vertical position differences.
Crouching, spectator mode, head-slot items like Mob Heads or carved pumpkins, and invisibility can hide players from the Locator Bar, reinforcing stealth gameplay. Dots for spectator players are visible to other spectators, and behavior is tuned to respect simulation distance. The feature is planned to become a toggleable option once it exits experimental status.
Creator and Technical Updates
API, Commands, and Custom Components V2
Minecraft 1.21.80 delivers extensive updates for addon developers and technical creators. Many APIs move from beta to stable versions, including difficulty controls, structure placement, jigsaw options, and bounding box utilities. Coroutines now flush earlier for asynchronous imports, enabling better interaction with early-execution APIs like custom components and commands.
Custom Components V2 introduces a flattened component model where custom elements can be defined inline with parameters in both blocks and items. Several creator-focused components receive new fields, including advanced rideable and leashable behavior options, improved camera radius settings, and more precise validation for missing assets or entities. Additional custom command APIs and UI form options expand script-driven interfaces.
Editor v0.9.5 and World Editing Enhancements
The integrated Editor toolset receives a major upgrade with version 0.9.5. Selection has been overhauled with a widget-based system that supports marquee and freehand selection, undo/redo, trim actions, and the Magic Select mode for quickly grabbing non-air blocks above a point. New tutorials, visualizations for tools like Smart Fill and Extrude, and expanded structure panel options streamline large-scale building.
Additional fixes improve performance, brush volume limits, world-boundary handling, and stability when editing complex volumes or switching dimensions. Together with new game rules in export options and updated keybinds, the Editor becomes an increasingly powerful solution for creators building multi-chunk structures, adventure maps, and detailed custom environments in Minecraft 1.21.80.
