Minecraft 26.60.29 introduces Ice Crystals that generate on Packed Ice, allow placement in any direction and break if their support is removed. They illuminate cave exploration, but currently appear smaller than intended.
Icicles and nearby light sources
Icicles resemble Dripstone and Sulfur Spikes, introducing another pointed hazard in underground passages. In Minecraft 26.60.29, they generate beneath Packed Ice and can naturally grow downward to five blocks long. Growth requires an area without nearby light sources outside the Nether, so surrounding illumination affects their development.
Nearby light can break Icicles and creates a chance for them to fall. Minecraft 26.60.29 makes falling Icicles damage entities, with extra damage when an entity lands on one. Exposure to nearby light or the Nether breaks them except for the base block, making lighting part of managing this hazard.
Frostbite and Ice Balls
The Frostbite is a new Zombie variant spawning in cold/icy biomes. MCPE 26.60.29 lets it choose melee or ranged attacks according to target distance and available Ice Balls; melee applies the Freezing Effect. Adult and baby variants use Zombie-style melee animations and dedicated throwing animations, making each attack type visually distinct.
Ice Ball hits deal 4 damage that decreases with projectile velocity and also cause knockback. In Minecraft 26.60.29, impacts with blocks or entities break the projectile with particles and sound. Frostbite drops Rotten Flesh and Ice Balls, connecting encounters with this mob to the materials used for Freezing potions.
Cold terrain changes the relationships between familiar undead mobs. Minecraft 26.60.29 turns Zombies and Husks into Frostbites inside Powder Snow, while a Frostbite becomes a Zombie after enough time underwater. Frostbite can stand on Powder Snow, is immune to freezing and avoids slowing from the Freezing Effect or Powder Snow.
Freezing Effect and Leather Armor
The Freezing Effect gradually freezes affected players, causing shaking, reduced jump height and eventual damage. Minecraft 26.60.29 gives Leather Armor protection against becoming frozen, as with Powder Snow. The effect can still be applied and is not removed by that armor, so protection does not clear the active condition.
The same condition also changes how cold damage affects mobs. Minecraft 26.60.29 makes mobs take additional Freezing damage while the effect is active, with a five times multiplier for mobs vulnerable to freezing. This makes a target’s susceptibility relevant when using the new cold-based combat mechanic.
Potion of Freezing and Arrow of Freezing
Ice Balls become brewing ingredients as well as projectiles used by Frostbite. Minecraft 26.60.29 uses them to brew Potion of Freezing, Splashing Potion and Lingering Potion. Dipping Arrows into a Cauldron filled with Potion of Freezing creates Arrow of Freezing, extending the mechanic from mob encounters to player-made ammunition.

Full inventories no longer allow held items to duplicate when players walk into a matching dropped stack.
